You can hardly go anywhere these days without hearing something about food, diet and nutrition. It’s in the media, schools are addressing it, the food industry is engaged in it and it’s now one the Government's top priorities. And why? Because we are currently experiencing an obesity epidemic, along with an increased risk in chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, stroke and arthritis - largely due to our lifestyles and confusion around what a healthy diet and lifestyle consists of.

On a very basic level, what we eat impacts us physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually. As a practicing nutritionist, I long for individuals to grasp this truth because I believe once we do, we will be empowered to make the right dietary choices for ourselves and our families, greatly reducing our risk of ill health and positively impacting our overall health and ultimately our future.

As part of my research into healthy eating, I consulted the worlds best selling publication - the Bible - to see what it had to say about the whole area of diet and health in relation to the current advice given by my profession and our Government. My conclusion is that every Christian should study and practice the fundamental principles of what the Bible has to say about diet, not just because of the benefits, but principally because it is required as part of our Christian service.
